After a polaroid image has been captured on Type 559 film, the print is developed according to manufacture's instructions. The print is then immersed in 160 degree water. The water must be maintained at that temperature throughout the process. The print remains immersed until you see bubbles forming in the emulsion layer of the print. At that time you can begin to gently loosen the emulsion with your thumb and forefinger. Continue to loosen the emulsion until completely free of the plastic substrate. With the emulsion floating in the water, gently slide a sheet of acetate below and slide the emulsion onto the acetate. While the emulsion is still wet, you can slide it around on the acetate until it is positioned the way you want. Using a watercolor brush or your finger slide the emulsion onto another surface. I usually place the image onto watercolor paper. You can continue to move the emulsion around as long as it remains wet.
